Butter Rum Cake

1 c. Shortening
2 c. Granulated Sugar
4 Eggs
1 c. Buttermilk
3 c. Flour
1/2 tsp. Soda
1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 tsp. Rum Extract
Cream together shortening and sugar.
Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
In a separate bowl mix together flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
Add flour alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
Add vanilla and rum extract.
Pour into a greased 10″ tube pan.
Bake 1 hour at 350°F.
Let stand 10 minutes before removing from pan.
Serve warm with butter rum sauce.
Butter Rum Sauce:
1/2 c. Butter
1/4 c. Granulated Sugar
1/4 c. Brown Sugar
1/4 c. Rum
1/2 tsp. Vanilla
Heat all ingredients over medium heat until sugar has dissolved.
