Chocolate Lovers Layer Cake

Cake:
1 1/2 c. Granulated Sugar
3/4 c. Butter, softened
1 Egg
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 c. Flour
2/3 c. Unsweetened Cocoa
2 tsp. Soda
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 c. Buttermilk
3/4 c. Sour Cream

Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla.
Mix together flour, cocoa, soda and salt.
Add flour to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk and sour cream.
Beat well after each addition.
Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9″ cake pans.
Bake 30-35 minutes at 350°F.
Remove from oven and let cool 5 minutes before removing from pans.
Let cool completely.
With a serrated knife cut layers in half, horizontally.
Place one layer on a serving plate.
Spread one third of filling on cake layer.
Repeat with next two layers.
Top with fourth layer then frost top and sides of cake with chocolate frosting.

Filling:
3/4 c. Whipping Cream
1 Tbsp. Butter
1 Tbsp. Granulated Sugar
1 1/2 c. Semisweet Chocolate Chips

Bring to a boil the whipping cream, butter and sugar, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.
Remove from heat.
Pour hot cream mixture over chocolate chips.
Let stand until chocolate is melted, about 5 minutes.
Stir until smooth.
Let stand 15-20 minutes until filling thickens.

Frosting:
1/2 c. Butter, softened
3/4 c. Unsweetened Cocoa
4 c. Powdered Sugar
1/2 c. Milk
1 tsp. Vanilla

Cream butter until smooth.
Add cocoa and powdered sugar alternately with milk.
Continue beating until smooth and creamy.
Beat in vanilla.
