
Bars:
1/4 c. Shortening
1/2 c. Granulated Sugar
1/2 c. Molasses or Sorghum
1 Egg
1/2 c. Milk
2 c. Flour
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/4 tsp. Soda
1 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1 1/2 c. Dates, chopped or Raisins
1 c. Walnuts or Pecans, chopped
Cream together shortening, sugar, molasses, egg and milk.
Mix in flour, salt, soda and baking powder.
Stir in dates and nuts.
Spread in a greased 9″ x 13″ pan.
Bake 25 minutes at 350°F.
Frost while still warm.
Let cool and cut into bars.
Frosting:
1 c. Powdered Sugar
1/8 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Vanilla or Lemon Extract
1-2 Tbsp. Cream
Stir together frosting ingredients until smooth and creamy.
