Spicy Cutout Cookies

1/4 c. Lard
1/4 c. Butter, softened
1/2 c. Brown Sugar
1 c. Sorghum
1 1/2 tsp. Soda
1 Tbsp. Hot Water
4 c. Flour
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Ginger
1 tsp. Mace
1/2 tsp. Cloves

In mixing bowl cream together lard, butter and brown sugar.
Beat in sorghum.
Dissolve soda in hot water.
Stir in soda mixture.
Mix in flour and spices.
Shape dough into 6 balls.
Wrap in plastic wrap and chill 4 hours.
On lightly floured, cloth covered pastry board roll each ball to 1/16″ thickness.
Cut into shapes using your favorite cookie cutters.
Place on parchment lined cookie sheets.
Bake 8 minutes until lightly browned.
