Strawberry Meringue Pie

2 doz. Ritz crackers, crushed
1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
3 Egg White, room temp.
1 c. Granulated Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
2/3 c. Walnuts, chopped
1 qt. Strawberries, washed hulled and sliced
1/2 c. Granulated Sugar
1 c. Whipping Cream, whipped or Cool Whip

In mixing bowl combine the crushed crackers and baking powder.
In a glass or stainless steel bowl beat egg whites until stiff.
Gradually adding sugar until stiff and glossy.
Beat in vanilla.
Fold cracker mixture and nuts into meringue.
Spoon mixture into a well greased 9″ pie plate.
Bake 30 minutes at 350°F.
Let crust cool.
While shell is baking combine strawberries and 1/2 cup sugar and let stand.
When ready to serve spoon strawberries over crust and top with whipped cream.
